Reputable Native Plant Sources

How we choose our reputable plant sources

MAPP has collected a list of our favourite and most reputable native plant sources. We chose these sources based on the criteria listed below.

  • Knowledgeable Staff – When looking for native pollinator plants, it is crucial that staff members are aware of the plants they are selling, the differences between a native, near-native, and non-native plant. Additionally, they should be able to answer your questions about the plants regarding growing requirements and size.
  • Plant Health / Quality – Gardening is not always cheap, so when purchasing plants we want them to be in good health. Plant size, colour, and age are important factors when choosing which plants to buy.
  • Transparency – It is important that staff members are transparent about the plants they are selling. Conversations with them should feel honest and helpful.
  • Stock Availability – Having many native plant options available with fairly abundant stock is a good sign. This typically means the inclusion of native plants in their stock is purposeful and makes it easier to find desired plants.
  • Support Local – When possible, support local family-owned businesses. They often have a stronger understanding of our growing zone, native plants, and more.
